Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property

At the Wet Tropics Management Authority, we are dedicated to protecting the Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) of Rainforest Aboriginal Peoples. Our objective is to create content that raises public awareness, fosters education, and deepens appreciation for the National Heritage-listed Indigenous heritage and the rich cultural landscape of the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage Area. We are committed to highlighting and amplifying the voices of Rainforest Aboriginal Peoples, ensuring their cultural narratives and heritage are honoured and respected.

In developing the Rainforest People Country Culture interactive map, we have established strict guidelines for the use of ICIP. These agreements address confidentiality, sublicensing and the assignment of rights, ensuring that all use and management of ICIP adheres to the wishes and protections stipulated by the relevant Rainforest Aboriginal Peoples. This framework ensures that the integrity of their cultural content is maintained and respected.
