Revegetation and Restoration of Loders Creek

Recipient: Southport High P&C

Amount funded
$39,960.00
Round
Round 2
Region
South East Queensland

Summary

The project will undertake litter and debris clean-up along Loders Creek spanning along the Southport State High School boundary. This will include auditing and entering of data into the National Marine Debris database. The project also aims to undertake weeding activities and improve the amount of native riparian vegetation along the boundary of Loders Creek and the school.

Benefits to the community

The weeding, revegetation and maintenance of the riparian zone with mat rushes, native grasses, shrubs and trees will stabilise the soil leading into Loders Creek, therefore reducing potential erosion of flood events (reducing the peak flows of water/flow velocity) and provide habitat to native fauna. The litter and debris clean-up activities will also assist in modifying the waste management practices of Southport State High School and minimise rubbish from the school boundary going into the creek.
