Dental Surgery

A tiny decorative timber building, now a dental surgery, began life as the Lowood Branch of the Royal Bank of Queensland. It was built in 1902 on a different site in Main Street, by Ipswich contractor Mr Little. At that time, Lowood was a railway town with a burgeoning dairy industry. In 1917 the bank was relocated to Railway Parade, using a team of 16 bullocks and a number of men. The brick strongroom was moved separately. The Royal Bank had merged with the Bank of North Queensland at this time and the Lowood branch was retained under the new name. In 1922, a further merger saw the bank established as a branch of the National Bank of Australasia, operating here until 1986.
