St Andrew's Church

This timber church in Mangerton Street Toogoolawah, is a fine example of the ecclesiastical work of architect Robin Dods. St Andrew’s was constructed in 1912 for the Anglican congregation on land donated by the McConnels of Cressbrook Station at a cost of £839 ($1678). Dods was well known to the McConnels, having designed a private chapel on their estate in 1901 to celebrate the silver wedding anniversary of James Henry and Mary Elizabeth. St Andrew’s was erected by local contractor A D Menzies who constructed most of the buildings in town to the mid-1920s. The church is a component of the Anglican precinct including the church, rectory and church hall. A severe storm in February 1913 damaged the church and misaligned the walls which were subsequently buttressed. Internally, the church remains unpainted, highlighting the beauty of the local timber. The highly intact interior contains original pews and altar furniture. The original split cedar roof shingles were replaced with ironbark shingles in 1966.
