The Tully Courthouse is a simple, low-set masonry building with timber verandas. It was designed in 1941 by Nigel Laman Thomas, an architect in the Department of Public Works; however WWII delayed its construction until 1945. The layout and design reflect responses to the tropical climate: offices are off the front veranda and there is a single courtroom at the core of the building, surrounded by verandas. It has been in continuous use as a courthouse since its construction.
