St Marks Anglican Church (2015)

This little timber church was built during 1912 and dedicated in 1913. The Brotherhood of St Barnabas, known as the Bush Brothers, was established in Herberton in 1902 to care for the spiritual needs of the sparse population of North Queensland, particularly in mining settlements. Early church services were conducted in Williams Hall from 1910 while funds were raised for the construction of a church. The Church was dedicated on 7 November 1913 and in 1918 a vestry was added to the front of the building. The beautiful timber coved ceiling reflects the main industry in town at the time of its construction. The church became part of the Atherton Parish in 1951 after the Brothers ceased management. The parish raised funds for the conservation of the building in 2001.
