Girringun Aboriginal Corporation

The Girringun Aboriginal Corporation represents the interests of traditional owners from nine tribal groups. In protecting and promoting the cultural and environmental values of country, the Girringun rangers achievements include:

  • conducting water quality monitoring on the Tully River and maintaining revegetation sites at Tully and Hull Heads
  • monitoring of Mahogany Gliders and Southern Cassowary populations and implementation of Mahogany Glider and Southern Cassowary Recovery Plans
  • protection and maintenance of cultural sites through clearing debris, fire and weed management, and cattle and feral animal exclusion fencing
  • monitoring and management of weed infestations (including hymenachne, siam weed and lantana) in partnership with Biosecurity Queensland and QPWS
