The Balngarrawarra rangers are actively engaged in sustainable natural resource management practices to maintain the cultural and, environmental values of country.

  • Conservation of rock art sites through vegetation management and mosaic burns.
  • Fire management for healthy country incorporating traditional knowledge and other ‘best-practice’ guidelines, conducted across 50,000 hectares in 2015.
  • Feral animal management and cattle removal to protect sensitive and important ecosystems and cultural sites.
  • Baseline fauna and flora surveys.
  • Management and control of rubbervine and priority weed species.
  • Soil conservation works to reduce sediment loads in the Normanby River and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park
