The Balngarrawarra rangers are actively engaged in sustainable natural resource management practices to maintain the cultural and environmental values of country. Key activities include:

  • conservation of rock art sites, including through managing surrounding vegetation and reducing fire risk through mosaic burns
  • fire management for healthy country incorporating traditional knowledge and other ‘best-practice’ guidelines
  • feral animal management and cattle removal to protect sensitive and important ecosystems and cultural sites
  • baseline fauna and flora surveys
  • management and control of rubbervine and other priority weed species
  • soil conservation works to reduce sediment loads in the Normanby River and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
