The Jabalbina Rangers manage Land and Sea Country around Mossman, Wujal Wujal and Shipton’s Flat, including the following key activities:

  • Recording, protecting and maintaining cultural heritage sites, particularly burial sites, including weed management, overgrown vegetation and maintaining grave sites;
  • Engaging with Elders and Traditional Owners On Country to maintain cultural protocols, obtain input into Ranger activities, and record traditional knowledge;
  • Implement the Jabalbina Fire Management Plan in collaboration with QPWS and Queensland Rural Fires;
  • Managing priority weeds in partnership with QPWS, Southern Cape York Catchments, QLD DAF, and Cook Shire Council, including Siam Weed, Hiptage, Miconia, Salvinia, Gamba Grass, Lantana, Sicklepod and Pond Apple;
  • Progressing Sea Country Management, including supporting a Traditional Owner Steering Committee to oversee the Sea Country Management Plan, cultural protocols, and to manage marine species and resources.
