Description | Acacia aneura low woodland, often groved and often including Eucalyptus leucophloia and/or Acacia cambagei as sub-dominant species with a variable shrub layer of Senna spp. and Acacia spp. and ground layer of tussock grasses and Triodia spp. Occurs on Tertiary and Quaternary outwash sandplains, in places reworked by wind; deep loamy red earths. Not a Wetland. (BVG1M: 23a). Vegetation communities in this regional ecosystem include: 1.5.7a: [RE not in use]²: This vegetation community is now mapped as 1.5.7. Low open woodland of Acacia aneura, often groved and often including Eucalyptus leucophloia and/or Acacia cambagei as sub-dominant species with a variable shrub layer of Senna spp. and Acacia spp. and ground layer of tussock grasses and Triodia spp. Occurs on sandsheets. Not a Wetland. (BVG1M: 23a). 1.5.7b: [RE not in use]²: This vegetation community is now mapped as 1.5.18. Low open woodland of Corymbia capricornia, usually with C. aparrerinja and Eucalyptus odontocarpa with a ground layer of Triodia pungens and/or Aristida hygrometrica. Occurs on older alluvium around low metamorphic hills. Not a Wetland. (BVG1M: 19a). 1.5.7x1: [RE not in use]²: This regional ecosystem is now mapped as 1.5.17. Corymbia terminalis low open woodland on sandy red soils. Associated species include Grevillea striata, Acacia excelsa, Corymbia aparrerinja, Acacia aneura, Atalaya hemiglauca and Hakea lorea subsp. lorea. Ground layer dominated by Triodia pungens. Occurs on Tertiary and Quaternary outwash sandplains, in places reworked by wind; deep loamy red earths. Not a Wetland. (BVG1M: 19b). 1.5.7x2: [RE not in use]²: This regional ecosystem is now mapped as 4.5.5x2. Erythrina vespertilio and Corymbia aparrerinja low open woodland. Occurs on sandy residual soils. Not a Wetland. (BVG1M: 18c). 1.5.7x3: [RE not in use]²: This regional ecosystem is now mapped as 1.5.18. Corymbia capricornia low open woodland, often with C. aparrerinja and Eucalyptus odontocarpa with a ground layer of Triodia pungens and/or Aristida hygrometrica. Occurs on red sandy soils around low metamorphic hills with silcrete and ferricrete cover. Not a Wetland. (BVG1M: 19a). |

Fire management guidelines | SEASON: Storm season to early dry season. INTENSITY: Various. INTERVAL: >30 years. INTERVAL_MIN: 30. INTERVAL_MAX: 100. STRATEGY: Burn in association with surrounding country. Maintain mosaic burning in surrounding country to mitigate against spread of unplanned fire into acacia woodlands. ISSUES: Acacia communities need fire for recruitment but make sure they occur at long intervals. Acacia communities are sensitive to high frequency intense fires. Buffel grass invasion can increase the potential for frequent and damaging fires. |
