Short description | Acacia shirleyi low woodland on lateritic scarps and hills |
Structure code | Low Woodland |
Description | Acacia shirleyi low woodland to low open forest. Occurs on lateritic scarps and hills. Not a Wetland. (BVG1M: 24a). Vegetation communities in this regional ecosystem include: 1.7.5a: Acacia shirleyi low woodland to low open forest. Occurs on lateritic scarps and hills. Not a Wetland. (BVG1M: 24a). 1.7.5b: Low woodland to open forest of Acacia shirleyi. Occurs on degraded remnants of ferricrete on metamorphic hills. Not a Wetland. (BVG1M: 24a). |
Protected areas | Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) NP, Lawn Hill (Stockyard Creek) RR, Lawn Hill (Littles Range) RR, Lawn Hill (Arthur Creek) RR |
Fire management guidelines | SEASON: Storm season to early dry season. INTENSITY: Various. INTERVAL: >30 years. INTERVAL_MIN: 30. INTERVAL_MAX: 100. STRATEGY: Burn in association with surrounding country. Maintain mosaic burning in surrounding country to mitigate against spread of unplanned fire into acacia woodlands. ISSUES: Acacia communities need fire for recruitment but make sure they occur at long intervals. Acacia communities are sensitive to high frequency intense fires. Buffel grass invasion can increase the potential for frequent and damaging fires. |
Comments | 1.7.5: This vegetation community was previously mapped as 1.7.1x1. 1.7.5a: This vegetation community was previously mapped as 1.7.1x1. 1.7.5b: This community occurs on hills that once had ferricrete capping which has now been stripped off. A cover of small to medium sized ferricrete rocks remains. This vegetation community was previously mapped as 1.11.2x8. Occurs on steep metamorphic hills mainly in the eastern portion of the Camooweal 1:250000 map sheet. |
