Regional ecosystem 1.9.8
Vegetation Management Act class Of concern
Wetlands Palustrine
Biodiversity status Of concern
Short description Spring wetlands on undeformed fine-grained sedimentary rock
Structure code Bare
Description Spring wetlands. Occurs on undeformed fine-grained sedimentary rock (limestone). Palustrine. (BVG1M: 34e).
Supplementary description Drysdale et al. (1998); Fensham et al. (2004)
Special values 1.9.8: Potentially significant refugia for remote plant populations and near threatened flora.
Fire management guidelines SEASON: Do not burn deliberately. INTENSITY: Low. INTERVAL: Fire return interval not relevant. INTERVAL_MIN: 100. INTERVAL_MAX: 100. STRATEGY: Do not burn deliberately. May be burnt in association with surrounding spinifex vegetation types. Low intensity fire in surrounding fire-adapted areas will reduce fire encroachment. ISSUES: Ensure sufficient soil moisture to protect peat layer and fire-sensitive softwood species. Presence of high biomass grasses and rubbervine may increase fire risks.
Comments 1.9.8: The biological values are poorly known. Some springs impacted by stock disturbance.

1 Estimated extent is from version 13.1 pre-clearing and 2021 remnant regional ecosystem mapping. Figures are rounded for simplicity. For more precise estimates, including breakdowns by tenure and other themes see remnant vegetation in Queensland.
