Short description Acacia argyrodendron woodland on alluvial plains
Structure code Woodland
Description Acacia argyrodendron woodland to low woodland. A secondary tree or shrub layer is usually absent although there can be scattered shrubs including Eremophila mitchellii, Lysiphyllum carronii and Atalaya hemiglauca. The ground layer is usually very sparse with Sporobolus actinocladus, Astrebla spp. and Iseilema vaginiflorum frequently present or dominant. Other graminoids usually present include Oxychloris scariosa, Enteropogon acicularis, Sporobolus spp., Dactyloctenium radulans, Brachyachne convergens and Chloris pectinata. Forbs commonly present include Trianthema triquetra, Portulaca filifolia and Evolvulus alsinoides. Occurs on Cainozoic alluvial plains. Not a Wetland. (BVG1M: 26a).

Fire management guidelines INTERVAL: Fire return interval not relevant. INTERVAL_MIN: 100. INTERVAL_MAX: 100. STRATEGY: Do not target for fires. Can tolerate only very early dry season fires, under mild conditions, that trickle along the ground layer. Control fuel loads in the surrounding vegetation. ISSUES: Blackwood is only tolerant of mild fires trickling underneath, and can be damaged or killed by moderate to high intensity fires. Exotic grasses, such as Buffel grass, carry intense fires into these communities and can cause tree deaths. There should be no damage to Acacia trees from fires.
Comments 11.3.8: Occurs mainly in the north-western part of bioregion. Extensively cleared for pasture.

1 Estimated extent is from version 13.1 pre-clearing and 2021 remnant regional ecosystem mapping. Figures are rounded for simplicity. For more precise estimates, including breakdowns by tenure and other themes see remnant vegetation in Queensland.
