Special values | 12.11.24: Potential habitat for NCA listed species: Corchorus cunninghamii, Endiandra floydii and Eucalyptus curtisii. This ecosystem is known to provide suitable habitat for koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus). |
Fire management guidelines | SEASON: Summer to winter with good soil moisture. INTENSITY: Low to moderate. INTERVAL: Most fire intervals expected to be 3-10 years. INTERVAL_MIN: 3. INTERVAL_MAX: 10. STRATEGY: Aim for 40-60% fine scale mosaic burn. Vary season and intensity of burns to encourage this mosaic. A spot ignition strategy in cooler or moister periods should assist achievement of a patchwork of burnt/unburnt country. Burns should be carried out where there is sufficient soil moisture. ISSUES: The fire regime should maintain a mosaic of grassy and shrubby understorey. Be aware of shrub density issues. Assess regeneration after the first growing season post-fire and for the next 2 years (minimum) to ensure saplings (primarily wattles, eucalypts and Allocasuarina spp.) are not developing too thickly. Observe over subsequent years to ensure the next fire occurs in time to maintain healthy grasses (especially Themeda sp.) and sclerophyll shrubs. |
Comments | 12.11.24: Previously mapped as 12.11.5a. Frequently grades upslope into 12.11.5 (Corymbia citriodora subsp. variegata) or 12.11.25 (C. henryi, E. fibrosa subsp. fibrosa) and downslope into 12.11.27 (E. racemosa/ E. seeana). Caboolture south to the New South Wales border. Lower altitude occurrences are being extensively cleared and fragmented. |
1 Estimated extent is from version 13.1 pre-clearing and 2021 remnant regional ecosystem mapping. Figures are rounded for simplicity. For more precise estimates, including breakdowns by tenure and other themes see remnant vegetation in Queensland.
