Regional ecosystem 6.3.12
Vegetation Management Act class Least concern
Wetlands Palustrine
Biodiversity status Of concern
Subregion 3, 5, 2, 6, (4), (8), (11.37), (1)
Estimated extent1 Pre-clearing 51000 ha; Remnant 2021 44000 ha
Short description Acacia omalophylla +/- A. microsperma +/- Eucalyptus coolabah tall open shrubland on alluvium
Structure code Woodland
Description Seasonal swamps (wooded). Mixed woodland, including combinations of the species Acacia microsperma, A. cambagei, A. omalophylla, A. harpophylla and Eucalyptus coolabah. A low shrub layer is absent, but scattered Eremophila glabra and Duma florulenta may occur. The ground layer is usually a sparse tussock grassland or sparse herbland in good seasons. More frequent grasses include Eragrostis setifolia, Paspalidium jubiflorum, Eragrostis parviflora, Diplachne fusca, Eriochloa pseudoacrotricha and Sporobolus spp. Common forbs include Marsilea drummondii, Lobelia darlingensis, Eryngium supinum and Sclerolaena spp. Occurs in closed depressions on with sand sheets, mainly east of the Warrego River. Associated with deep to very deep, light to medium, grey alluvial clays. Palustrine. (BVG1M: 34b).

Special values 6.3.12: Potential drought refuge areas for fauna species.
Fire management guidelines INTERVAL: Fire return interval not relevant. INTERVAL_MIN: 100. INTERVAL_MAX: 100. STRATEGY: Manage surrounding country. ISSUES: This community does not need fire. Flood events drive recruitment. Hollow trees are critical habitat. High intensity and extensive fires will degrade vegetation structure and destroy animal habitats. Restrict extent and intensity of fires.
Comments 6.3.12: Very restricted regional ecosystem, often heavily grazed. Mediocre to poor condition due to extensive scalding and erosion (Mills and Lee, 1990).

1 Estimated extent is from version 13.1 pre-clearing and 2021 remnant regional ecosystem mapping. Figures are rounded for simplicity. For more precise estimates, including breakdowns by tenure and other themes see remnant vegetation in Queensland.
