Zone B - Bells Road, Newell
The aims of this project are to restore the endangered palustrine freshwater swamp and open forest ecosystem and to enhance ecological function and increase wildlife habitat. Most importantly for these watercourse ecosystems, the project will reduce erosion and sediment runoff, a crucial ecosystem service to the water catchment area of the greater Daintree and the Great Barrier Reef. It will also improve water filtration in the area to be planted and neighbouring sugarcane farmland. The removal of invasive weeds that risk choking the waterways will not only improve water flow across the landscape but also enhance the overall ecosystem.
