BP Refinery (Bulwer Island) Pty Ltd commissioned the Pinkenba station in 2001 as part of its major clean fuels upgrade. It was located next to the Pinkenba State School until January 2013 when the property was sold, and from February 2014 operated at a site in Tingira Street. With the BP refinery ceasing operations in May 2015 the Pinkenba monitoring station closed in November 2015.
